Whereas the Bacchus created in 1945 (cat. no. 47) has a body marked by excessive drinking, the Bacchus of 1946 is surprisingly youthful (see Bacchante, cat. no. 56). René Letourneur cut his work directly from pink Milan marble. The work was then cast for the bronze edition.
