Marcello Mascherini (1906-1983) Baccante or Danzatrice 1953 Bronze with green-brown patina Signed "M. MASCHERINI" on the terrace H. 107 cm, on a marble base H. 3 cm Italian-born Marcello Mascherini initially trained as an ornamental sculptor. From 1924 onwards, he exhibited at the Union des Beaux-Arts de Trieste, the Roman Quadriennales, the Milan Triennales and took part in eleven editions of the Venice International Biennale. At the 1938 edition, he was hailed as the revelation of young Italian sculpture. He was awarded the First Prize for Sculpture in 1950. In the 1950s, Mascherini developed stylized figures with fluid, angular lines that contributed to his renown.
