Paul Landowski (1875-1961) Heracles and the Hind with Feet of Brass Model created in 1921, Barbedienne edition circa 1925-1935 Bronze with silver patina Signed "P Landowski" and dated "1922". Stamped "F. BARBEDIENNE / Fondeur. Paris". H. 50 cm, terrace W. 57 x D. 19.5 cm Héraclès à la biche aux pieds d'airain is part of a series of sculptures illustrating the Labors of Hercules originally commissioned from sculptor Paul Landowski by Count Edmond de Fels in 1921. While the project was not completed, Paul Léon, director of the Beaux-Arts and member of the Office National du Tourisme, commissioned Paul Landowski in 1922 to create an international ski cup. The sculptor took the model of Heracles with a doe and added an engraved motif of skiers on the base. The edition of the model does not include this detail.
