Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) Louis d'Orléans Model created in 1870, antique cast numbered "149" by Charles More from 1875 onwards Bronze with brown patina Signed "E. FREMIET" on the terrace H. 83 cm x terrace 34 x 9 cm In 1869, Emmanuel Frémiet was commissioned by the French State to create two equestrian statues of medieval men-at-arms in polychrome stone, but only one of these was ever produced in bronze. The work cast by Thiébaut was presented at the Salon of 1870 under the title Louis d'Orléans, and was installed at the request of Viollet-le-Duc at the Château de Pierrefonds in 1875.
