Justinus, Marcus Junianius. - Justino historico clarissimo, - Lot 255
Justinus, Marcus Junianius. - Justino historico clarissimo, nelle historiae di Trogo Pompeio, novamente in lingua toscana, tradotto: et con somma diligentia et cura stampato. Venice, Niccolo Zopino and Vicentio [Vicenzo di Paolo], 1524. In-12 bound in full vellum with smooth spine, red title page (late 18th century vellum) - 176 leaves (all included), engraved allegorical title, part of text in red. Work divided into 44 books and illustrated with 44 beautiful woodcut allegorical initials. A few rare pale freckles. Justin was a Roman historian of the 3rd or 4th century AD. He is the author of Pompey Trogue's "Philippic Histories", a 44-book account of the general history of the world, centered on the Macedonian Empire founded by Philip II. The work begins with Ninus, founder of Nineveh, and ends in 9 AD. Justin provides an abridged version of Trogo's history, but this is the only source we have. A fine copy.
