[Rouart, Ernest] - Notebook of drawings and washes attributed to Ernest Rouart. Oblong linen notebook (16.8 x 24.8 cm with frayed edges) of 45 ff. with 68 female subjects in sketches: 14 washes and 54 pencil drawings, including a portrait resembling that of Berthe Morisot. An exhibition brochure from the 2/06/2006 sale at Oger et Dumont, where this sketchbook was presented (experts Brame and Lorenceau), is enclosed. Ernest Rouart (1874-1942), painter, watercolorist, pastellist and engraver, was one of the 4 sons of Henri Rouart and nephew of Eugène Rouart. He married Julie Manet, daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugène Manet. Edgard Degas, a family friend, gave him his first painting lessons.
