Isabelle Waldberg (1911-1990) Zen rider Bronze with brown patina Signed "I. WALBERG Numbered "2/2 H. 45 cm Swiss-born Isabelle Waldberg attended various academies in Montparnasse in the 1930s. There she met Giacometti, Masson and Leris. In 1942, she moved to the United States, where she was adopted by the "Artists in Exile" group. In 1944, Peggy Guggenheim organized her first solo exhibition in New York. Her work, initially surrealist, moved towards totemistic abstraction after discovering the sculptures of the Navajo and Inuit Indians.
