Pierre Marie Poisson (1876-1953) Oriental woman Bronze with green patina Signed "PM POISSON Bears the artist's stamp "à la main de Fatma" and numbered "n°1". Bears the founder's stamp "C. VALSUANI CIRE PERDUE H. 32.5 cm From 1893 to 1896, Pierre-Marie Poisson trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, before joining Louis-Ernest Barrias' studio in Paris. From 1899, he was a regular participant in the Salon des Artistes Français. He was responsible for several war memorials, including the most famous in Le Havre, and numerous Art Deco works, notably the Trocadero fountain. In 1907, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Villa Abd-El-Tif in Algiers. On his return to Paris, he spent six months a year in Bou-Saada until he was drafted during the Great War.
