Around 1700, in Venice - which in France corresponds to the end of the Louis XIV era - Murano glassmakers demonstrated and confirmed their technical excellence, unrivalled in Europe: mirrors, glass engraving, blown, molded and spun glass.
Among their decorative creations, mirrors play an important role, framed by paint, lacquer, arte povera or gilded metal, as seen here.
The workshop from which our mirror comes (identical in every respect to the one in the A & G. Getty collection), with its original rock crystal and polychrome molded glass decoration, also produced a number of octagonal mirrors with similar specific decoration.
Their exceptional, sought-after quality is the result of a combination of quality, originality and Baroque fantasy.
