René Babin (1919-1997) Seated nude woman à la Michelangelo Plaster Unsigned 44 x 19 x 23 cm Born in 1919 in Paris, René Babin entered the École des Arts Appliqués in 1935 and attended the sculpture classes of Robert Wlerick and the drawing classes of Charles Malfray for three years, where he became friends with Raymond Martin, Jean Carton and Simon Goldberg. From 1953, he received many awards, such as the Viking prize and the Paul-Louis Weiller prize awarded by the Institute in 1979 and the Charles Malfray prize in 1991. He regularly exhibited at the Salon des In- dépendants, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture. He participated in the first exhibition of the group of Nine in 1964, at the Vendôme gallery. His works are exhibited in two important international exhibitions, one in New York in 1959 and the other in Stockholm in 1970.
