Jean LETOURNEUR (1954) - Lot 183
Jean LETOURNEUR (1954) Surface of discontinuity 1986 Stone (direct cut), wax-based patina Monogrammed and dated (on one side at bottom): JL 86 105 x 36 x 26 cm Steel base: 60.5 x 40 x 40 cm Moved by the beauty of water's movement, Jean Letourneur evokes it in Surface de discontinuité. To structure this work, he studied at length the experimental photographs produced by ONERA (Office national d'études et de recherches aérospatiales) to which he had access. Surface de discontinuité shows the evolution of a liquid flow (from a laminar state, i.e. fluid and calm, to a turbulent state). Studies of the work are included in the sale (cat. no. 182). It is reproduced on the Florilège de la popularisation des mathématiques website (https://www.florilege-maths.fr/fiche/jean-letourneur/). Exhibitions : - 1986, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, Fondation de Coubertin: Sculptures du xxe siècle. - 1988, Châtillon, Aérospatiale headquarters. - 1991, Fontenay-aux-Roses, théâtre des sources. - 1998, Paris, Institut Henri Poincaré: Anatomie du Chaos.
