René Letourneur created a small Study for Dream in 1960 (cat. no. 86). Some fifteen years later, he executed his sculpture in direct carving. The plaster cast presented here is the result of the marble casting, which gave rise to the bronze edition. A bronze copy was presented in the exhibition L'Atelier du sculpteur René Le- tourneur at the Musée d'Île-de-France in Sceaux.
Drawing studies also bear witness to the artist's research prior to casting the marble (see cat. no.120 and no.122).
