With Le Charme, René Letourneur follows in the footsteps of the cathedral imagiers of the Middle Ages. The folded-in figure hints at the shape of the block that contained it. His glued-together masses give a strong sense of contained power. Finally, his stylized face, deployed on a plane that takes us as witnesses, lends the work all its mystery.
