The Wave

First executed in marble using the direct carving technique, La Vague is then cast. This casting was reworked by the artist for the bronze edition: it gave the figure's outer curves, which in places were broken by the marble block's boundaries, all the suppleness desired. The flattened treatment of La Vague should be compared with that of L'Ange, created in 1977-1980 (see 2009 EXHIBITION, p. 181, no. 163).
