René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) Study for the Orpheus at Livry-Gargan secondary school 1969 Original plaster executed from plastiline Label (lower back): LIVRY-GARGAN R. HUMMEL Arch / RENÉ LETOURNEUR Sulp. 57 x 18 x 16 cm The Study for the Orpheus for the Livry-Gargan college is a testimony to the artist's first thoughts in response to the commission. The Modèle pour l'Orphée du collège de Livry-Gargan (see cat. no. 97) represents the culmination of his thinking. The finished work, 3 meters high, is placed in front of the Livry-Gargan secondary school (Seine-Saint-Denis). It is made from a new material composed of cement and copper filings, created at the suggestion of René Letourneur.
