René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) - Lot 69
René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) Female nude back, knee down 1955 Engraved limestone with highlighted pigments Monogrammed (bottom) : RL 58.5 x 27.5 x 4 cm Restoration top left A preparatory drawing for this stone has been preserved (cat. no. 70). For low-budget public commissions, René Letourneur used salvaged slabs of soft stone, which had the advantage of being highly decorative. The precision of his line drawings is enhanced by the addition of pigments fixed in sodium silicate. A series of polychrome engraved stones was exhibited at the 1955 Salon d'Automne.
