René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) The Arts, study for the Lycée de Saint-Germain-en-Laye 1953 Original plaster 77.5 x 22 x 18.5 cm Les Arts is one of two female allegories, along with Les lettres (cat. no. 65), created by René Letourneur as part of the 1% artistic public commission. Executed between 1953 and 1957 in Eu- ville stone, they were destined for the Lycée Marcel Roby in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (later Lycée Jeanne-d'Al- bret). Architect Jean-Baptiste Hourlier, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1926, was in charge of the commission. The two sculptures were installed in the lycée's grounds, where they remain to this day.
