René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) Bacchus 1946 Shaded green patina bronze proof, n°3/8 Lost-wax casting Coubertin 2009 Copyright, date, numbering, artist's signature and founder's stamp (on the edge of the left-hand terrace): © 1946 3/8 LETOURNEUR 39 x 14 x 14.5 cm Height of bronze base: 5 cm Whereas the Bacchus created in 1945 (cat. no. 47) has a body marked by excessive drinking, the Bacchus of 1946 is surprisingly youthful (see Bacchante, cat. no. 56). René Letourneur cut his work directly from pink Milan marble. The work was then cast for the bronze edition. Bibliography : 2009 EXHIBITION, p. 44, no. 26 (pink Milan marble).
