René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) - Lot 36
René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) Reclining nude 1988 Relief in pentelic marble Signed (on the right edge) : LETOURNEUR 43 x 87 x 3 cm Patinated wooden base: 4 x 93 x 20 cm In this Reclining Nude, René Letourneur continues to explore the theme of the reclining figure resting on one arm, which has inspired him throughout his career, beginning with the Child-Woman of 1936 (cat. no. 28). He returned to a very shallow relief, achieved through a skilful modeling that can also be seen in La Vague (cat. no. 113) and La Nuit II (cat. no. 6). This direct-cut marble from the very end of René Letourneur's career has never been exhibited.
