Goldberg". 31.5 x 24 cm Born in Paris in 1913, Simon Goldberg entered the studio of sculptor Élysée Cavaillon in 1926, a former member of the Schnegg gang, with whom he learned drawing. The following year, Louis Rueff introduced him to wood sculpture. In 1931, at the Ecole des Arts Appliqués, he took modeling classes with Robert Wlérick and drawing classes with Charles Malfray. In 1938, he organized an exhibition with his friend, the sculptor Raymond Corbin, and many of his drawings became part of the collections of the Nevers, Valence and Granville museums. He was commissioned by the French government to create a stone sculpture, Femme assise. In 1948, he was commissioned to create the Monument à la mémoire de la Résistance for the towns of La Chapelle-Montlinard (Cher) and Saint-Étienne (Loire). Whatever the technique, Simon Goldberg treats all subjects with the same freshness and verve: nudes, animals, portraits, scenes from everyday life (see Simon Goldberg, 1913-1985.
