Raymond Martin (1910-1992) The man with the trophy 1974 Bronze with brown patina Signed and dated "RAYMOND MARTIN / 1974". Bears the founder's mark "SUSSE FONDEUR PARIS". Numbered "1/8 H. 184 cm Provenance: former D. Wildenstein collection As the plaster was destroyed, only two copies of this model exist. The number "2/8" is kept at the town hall of Cachan (Val-de-Marne). Related literature: Yvonne, Goldenberg, Raymond Martin à la Mon- naie de Paris, cat. Born in Paris in 1910, Raymond Martin entered the École des arts appliqués in 1925, where his teacher Jules Jouant guided him towards sculpture. During this period, he met Robert Wlérick (1882-1944), of whom he was to become a faithful disciple. From 1927 to 1929, he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Jules Coutan's studio. In 1932, he held his first exhibition at Galerie Paquereau, rue Guénégaud in Paris, and official recognition soon followed: his Buste de Mergier was purchased by the City of Paris. 1985 saw three major exhibitions: "Raymond-Martin à la Monnaie de Paris", "Raymond-Martin au Musée Despiau-Wlérick" in Mont-de-Marsan and "Raymond-Martin à Cachan".
