Alfred-Auguste Janniot (1889-1969) Head of an athlete Plaster proof H. 36 cm, on a cubic plaster base H. 20 cm This head is a study for Alfred Auguste Janniot's monumental Athlète for the Lescure stadium in Bordeaux. A student of Jean-Antoine Injalbert at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and winner of the Prix de Rome in 1919, Janniot was one of the leading sculptors of the Art Deco period. He produced numerous monumental works, including the reliefs on the south façade of the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris for the 1931 International Exhibition.
