Lucien Gibert (1904-1988) Reclining nude Black patina bronze Signed "GIBERT L". Stamped "CIRE PERDUE A. VALSUANI H. 24 cm, terrace W. 40.5 x D. 9.7 cm, resting on a black marble base H. 2.5 cm After an introduction to cabinetmaking under his father's guidance, Lucien Gibert attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne, then Jean Boucher's studio in Paris. Inspired by Despiau and Maillol, Gibert moved towards a less academic style. From 1923, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français and the Salon des Indépendants. He took on commissions for public monuments and produced numerous medals for the Monnaie de Paris, of which he became director.
