The plate shown here was certainly intended for a belt buckle. Created in Caldes de Montbuy, it was published by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler: Manolo had a contract with this dealer between 1912 and 1933. Spanish sculptors Julio Gonzalez, Pablo Gargallo, Francisco Durrio and Manolo Hugué were very active in jewelry-making in Paris in the early 20th century. Their aesthetic was strongly influenced by Art Nouveau and then Art Deco. From the 1910s onwards, Manolo's jewelry-making became less frequent. He resumed this activity around the 1930s, offering his creations to his wife Totote and his adopted daughter Rosa.
