Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) - Lot 120
Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) Dog Bronze proof with brown patina, 21/24 Lost-wax casting No founder's stamp Probably cast by Claude Valsuani Monogrammed and numbered (on back) 10 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm (Belgium black base: 4 x 4 x 4 cm) Provenance : Sweden, Rune Hägg collection By descent Bibliography : - Pierre Bonnard, A guide to the paintings, cat. exp. Nottingham Castle Museum & Sargy Mann, 1984, p. 13. - Anne Pingeot, Bonnard sculpteur catalog raisonné, Musée d'Orsay, Paris, Nicolas Chaudun, Paris, 2006, p. 132-137. This sculpture was acquired in Sweden by the collector Rune Hägg in 1967, and has remained in his family until now. The history of Bonnard's sculptures and their publication has been retraced by Anne Pingeot in her catalog raisonné Bonnard sculpteur, published in 2006. Pierre Bonnard's sculpture, extremely rare compared to his painting, has the same "impressionist" character as the latter, where vibration dominates everything. The smooth, flowing lines reveal the work of the clay.
