Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) Bather at the Rock (without foot) Brown patina bronze proof, 21/24 Lost-wax casting No founder's stamp Probably cast by Claude Valsuani Monogrammed (on back) Numbered (right side) 17.4 x 6 x 7.5 cm Provenance : Sweden, Rune Hägg collection By descent A certificate of authenticity by Charles Terrasse dated December 20, 1967 will be given to the buyer. Bibliography : - Pierre Bonnard, A guide to the paintings, cat. exp. Nottingham Castle Museum & Sargy Mann, 1984, p. 13, repr. - Anne Pingeot, Bonnard sculpteur catalog raisonné, Musée d'Orsay, Paris, Nicolas Chaudun, Paris, 2006, p. 108-114. This sculpture was acquired in Sweden by the collector Rune Hägg in 1967, and has remained in his family until now. The history of Bonnard's sculptures and their publication has been retraced by Anne Pingeot in her catalog raisonné Bonnard sculpteur, published in 2006. Pierre Bonnard's sculpture, extremely rare compared to his painting, has the same "impressionist" character as the latter, where vibration dominates everything. The smooth, flowing lines reveal the work of the clay.
