Bibliography : - Pierre Bonnard, A guide to the paintings, cat. exp., Nottingham Castle Museum & Sargy Mann, 1984, p. 13, repr. - Anne Pingeot, Bonnard sculpteur catalog rai- sonné, Musée d'Orsay, Paris, Nicolas Chaudun, Paris, 2006, p.126-129. This sculpture was acquired in Sweden by the collector Rune Hägg in 1967, and had remained in his family until then. The history of Bonnard's sculptures and their publication has been retraced by Anne Pingeot in her catalog raisonné Bonnard sculpteur, published in 2006. Pierre Bonnard's sculpture, extremely rare compared to his painting, has the same "impressionist" character as the latter, where vibration dominates everything. The smooth, flowing lines reveal the work of the clay.
