Louis Dejean (1872-1953) - Lot 109
Louis Dejean (1872-1953) Black patina bronze Signed "Louis Dejean" and dedicated "à mon ami Deshairs" on the base Bears the founder's mark on the back: "Alexis RUDIER. Fondeur. Paris". H. 95 cm Our torso is dedicated to Léon Deshairs (1874-1967), art historian and curator of the Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs. Self-taught, Louis Dejean achieved success at the turn of the century with terracotta statuettes of graceful young women, captured in their daily activities and dressed in the fashion of Paris at the time. He then turned to more academic subjects, and his style reinterpreted ancient Greco-Roman art according to the ideas advocated by the "Bande à Schnegg", a group of sculptors active in the first decade of the 20th century.
