Bernhard Hoetger (1874-1949) Woman's head Bronze with brown patina Signed "B. Hoetger" on the neck Bears the founder's stamp "Eug. Blot Paris H. 23 cm, on a green veined marble pedestal H. 11 cm German sculptor Bernhard Hoetger trained at the Düsseldorf Academy. From 1900, he moved to Paris, helped found the Salon d'Automne in 1905 and exhibited at the In-dependants. On his return to Germany, he was appointed master of the Darmstadt artists' colony and sought to integrate sculptural groups into architectural ensembles. His work is part of the German Expressionist movement, sensitive to social problems. The dealer and publisher Eugène Blot gave him invaluable support, publishing his bronzes in limited editions and exhibiting his work alongside Camille Claudel in his gallery in December 1905.
