François Sicard (1862-1934) Bronze with brown patina Signed "Sicard" on the back Bears the founder's stamp "THIEBAUD FRES PARIS FUMIERES ET GAVIGNOT". Inscribed in a cartouche on the front "A MR NIGNON / SES FOURNISSEURS / EN SOUVENIR DE SON ELEVATION AU / GRADE DE CHEVALIER DANS LA LEGION D'HONNEUR / PARIS LE 7 MAI 1921". H. 92 cm, on a green marble base H. 10 cm A pupil of Ernest Barrias and Félix Laurent, François Sicard won the Prix de Rome in 1891 for his group Apollon chante au milieu des bergers. On his return to France, Sicard embarked on an official career and was entrusted with the realization of numerous monuments. He became the appointed sculptor to Georges Clémenceau, for whom he produced several portraits and a Monument à Sainte-Hermine.
