Pierre Tourgueneff (1853-1912) Dragon in the spotlight Circa 1900 Bronze with light brown patina Signed "PIERRE TOURGUENEFF" on the terrace H. 41 cm, terrace W. 31 x D. 9.5 cm Born into a Russian family who settled in Paris in 1834, Pierre Tourgueneff trained in animal sculpture in Emmanuel Frémiet's workshop. Fueled by his passion for equines and the Napoleonic era, the sculptor placed the horse at the center of his work. He made his debut at the 1880 Universal Exhibition, presenting the Russian stallion Visapour. He exhibited regularly at various salons and world's fairs in France and abroad until 1911.
