Charles Valton (1851-1918) Mouse with sugar cubes Bronze with brown patina and alabaster Signed "VALTON" on the alabaster sugar cube Total height 11 cm with red marble base inscribed "AUX BONS AMIS LANDRE". Charles Valton grew up in Paris, where he was a regular visitor to the Jardin des Plantes. He was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied with animal sculptors Antoine-Louis Barye and Emmanuel Frémiet. From 1868 to 1914, Valton produced over seventy animal models.
