Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900) after Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904) Phryné Model created in 1868; our example cast circa 1890 Bronze with light-brown patina Bears the publisher's mark "GOUPIL & CIE Editeurs" and the number "98". H. 39 cm In 1868, at the request of the publisher Goupil, Alexandre Falguière reworked the figure of Phryné in front of the Areopagus painted by Jean-Léon Gérôme and presented at the 1861 Salon. For the bronze and ivory edition of this figure, Falguière's plaster model was subsequently retouched by Gérôme.
