Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875) Charles VII the Victorious Antique cast by the Barye workshop between 1875 and 1875 Bronze with light brown patina Signed "BARYE" on the terrace H. 30.5 cm, terrace W. 23.5 x D. 7.5 cm This equestrian statuette depicting Charles VII victorious, laurelled and holding a scepter, on a richly harnessed mount is one of two variants created by Barye around 1840. It represents Charles VII, King of France, who was crowned in Reims in 1429 thanks to Joan of Arc. This work is typical of the romantic statuette so popular in the 1840s.
