19th-century French school after Pierre Lepeautre (1660-1744 - Lot 5
19th-century French school after Pierre Lepeautre (1660-1744) Aeneas carrying his father Anchises, followed by Ascagne Bronze with light brown patina Bears the founder's mark "F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR" and the stamp "REDUCTION MECANIQUE A. COLLAS". H. 66 cm Aeneas carrying his father, followed by Ascagne is the fruit of a collaboration between François Girardon and Pierre Lepautre, when they were both boarders at the Académie de France in Rome (documented in a 1696 letter from Villacerf to the director of the institution). In the same year, Girardon entrusted the wax model to Lepautre, who made a number of modifications. The marble, now in the Louvre, was completed in 1701, when Lepautre returned to France.
