Rouen, Manufacture of Paul Caussy Rare plate from the first service of Eustache Bernart d'Avernes, with polychrome decoration of a Chinese man seated on a wheeled chair at the foot of a tree, surrounded by birds and butterflies. Behind him, a servant shelters him with a parasol. The lace on the rim is embellished with the arms of the Marquis de chef de gueules with a silver cross set on a Maltese cross and the order's collar. Repaired chips on the rim. Marked on the reverse in cursive lettering N°226 in manganese. 18th century circa 1737. D. 24 cm Provenance: former Papillon collection no. 185 and purchase from Henri Metais in Rouen no. 184. Cf. plates from the same service in the Cité de la Céramique and the Victorian and Albert Museum, London, and reproduced in the 1932 directory of French faïence.
