Salvador DALI (1904-1989) ¡Viva Gala! Ayuntamiento [Town Hall] of Madrid, 1985 Very rare portfolio produced for the first urban art exhibition, in an edition of 25 copies, hors commerce, lettered A to V, ours being copy H, signed in pencil by Dali in the colophon and featuring an original drawing by Salvador Dali: Three figures and a horse. Ink drawing (pen) on pink paper, signed lower right. 20 x 15 cm Completed sixty days after Easter. On the Thursday following Trinity Sunday, the feast of Corpus Christi in the year of Gala 1985, and on the occasion of the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Spain and Portugal to the European Community, Salvador Dali's ¡Viva la Gala! was printed, under the direction of Gonzalo Armero, in the Progres Graphique and Panorama workshops in Madrid, on 190 g/m² Guarro printing paper and 100 g/m² Fabriano Ingres laid paper. It is housed in a sumptuous slipcase sheathed in mauve moiré silk, stamped with the author's name and titled in gilded letters on the front cover. This edition was sponsored by Ararte, as part of its first urban art exhibition, with the support of the Direction Générale des Beaux-Arts and the collaboration of the Association Espagnole de Publicité Extérieure. 51 x 36 cm
