Militaria, Restoration and July Monarchy - Lot 236
Militaria, Restoration and July Monarchy 1/ - Charles René Louis vicomte de Bernard de Marigny. - LS to Comte d'Hoffelize, April 1, 1816. 2 ff. Marigny congratulates Comte d'Hoffelize on the measures he has taken to thwart "plots" in the town of Carhaix. He also states that he cannot take any action against Sieur Cosmas, a former general in Napoleon's army, who has been disbarred for expressing opinions too openly favorable to the "usurper". Marigny deplored the fact that a general "who enjoyed a good reputation, as a naval officer and as a man of courage" "had not frankly rallied to the cause of the King, in whom alone lies the salvation of France". 2/ - Louis Liger-Belair. - LS au directeur général des Eaux et forets à Paris, December 22, 1814. 1 sheet folded in 4, small tears. - General Liger-Belair recommends his father-in-law, M. Jeoffroy, garde général des eaux et forets à Bar sur Aube, to the benevolence of the directeur des Eaux et Forets. In this period of the first Restoration, "boundless devotion to His Majesty" was praised. 3/ - Charles du Houx de Vioménil. - LS to comte d'Hoffelize, maréchal de camp commandant le département du Finistère, January 22, 1816. 3 ff. including one at the head with the King's coat of arms. The comte de Vioménil orders the comte d'Hoffelize to gather all possible information on the officers and non-commissioned officers in residence in Finistère, in order to proceed with the purification of civil and military administrations and the replacement of officials too attached to the empire or not loyal enough to the king. 4/ - Chabannes. - Letter addressed to Count d'Hoffelize, peer of France, March 3, 1830. 2 ff. Autographed document, vigorous pamphlet against Charles X and his ministers, urging the peers to respect the Charter, failing which serious events could occur. 5/ - General Pajol. - LS to the general commanding the 5th military division in Strasbourg, April 10, 1832. 1 f. Dismissed by Napoleon in March 1812, Dupont was appointed Minister of War by the provisional government in March 1814, a post he held until the Hundred Days. He was then released by the Bourbons and returned to the ministry in September 1815. 9/ - Pierre Dupont, comte de l'Etang. - LS to the general commanding the 5th military division, asking him to reserve for the chevalier de la Salle, king's commissioner in Strasbourg, the same honors as for an extraordinary commissioner.
