Early 18th century. 1 vol. in-8, bound in full red morocco, framed lace on covers, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges, olive morocco lining, wide inner lace, gilt and embossed paper endpapers. - Joints cracked, headband frayed, headband split, boards rubbed, endpapers slightly missing. - 520 numbered ff. + 30 interleaved ff. between f° 515 and f° 517 containing the index of the work. We enclose 2 documents on vellum 1/ - Diplôme de bachelier en médecine de François de La Porte (born in Aubusson in 1668), issued by the Faculty of Toulouse on June 28, 1698. 2/ - Brevet de Louis XVI du 23 août 1778 nommant François de la Porte ( 1747-1836), fils de Pierre de la Porte (1720-1784) et petit-fils du précédent, médecin de la faculté de Bourges, pour remplir les fonctions de médecin militaire à Cayenne, signé de la main de Louis XVI et contresigné par Sartine. A fine early eighteenth-century medical textbook, written mainly in Latin, with numerous French commentaries. According to a note inserted in the book, the last part was written by Pierre de la Porte, son of François. However, there is no obvious difference in spelling between the beginning and end of the book.
