Godonnesche and Fleurimont. - Medals from the reign of Louis XV. S.l.n.d. [Paris, 1736]. Small folio, bound in full contemporary stiff vellum, red marbled edges, smooth spine, fawn title-piece - wormholes on spine without affecting text, copy partially out of order, pl. 42 browned, a few pll. at edges slightly browned - [55 ff., allegorical frontispiece by F. Le Moyne engraved by L. Cars, title engraved in a rocaille cartouche, dispatch to the King by Godonnesche and 52 finely engraved pll. by Fleurimont of captioned medals from 1715 to 1734, in eleven repetitive historiated frames]. The last 2 plates are missing. Godonnesche was master of the king's cabinet of medals, to which Fleurimont, the engraver, had access. Later editions included up to 78 plates (in 1749), but this first edition remains the rarest. From the Robert de Billy library, with bookplate.
