Le Berryais, René. - Traité des jardins ou le nouveau de La Quintinye containing the description and cultivation of 1° fruit trees; 2° vegetable plants; 3° trees, shrubs, flowers and ornamental plants. Paris, Belin, 1785-1788. 4 vol. in-8 bound in marbled havana calf, ornate ribbed spines, red morocco title-pieces, red edges. - Several corners pierced, one jaw split, headbands frayed, one plate with short margins in vol. 4. - XXIV, 410, [2]; 416; 546; 523 pp. illustrated with 27 folding plates. Volumes 2 and 3 have no plates (complete). A collaborator of Duhamel du Monceau, under whose signature he published Traité des arbres fruitiers, Le Berryais (1722-1807) was the creator of the Louise bonne pear. His treatise on gardens, first published in 1775, focuses on architecture, particularly greenhouses, as Le Berryais was also an architect.
