Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) Medallion of Richard Maguet (1896-1940), 1947-1955 Plaster with terracotta patina Signed (bottom) : Damboise Inscribed (below): RICHARD MAGUET 1896 1940 D. 51 cm Inv. MD-S-030-00 Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent Poor condition Marcel Damboise and painter Richard Maguet met in 1932, during their stay at the Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers. After volunteering to defend France in 1939, Richard Maguet was killed in 1940, at the age of 44, in Sully-sur-Loire. A close friend of the painter, Marcel Damboise created this medallion following his death, for his tombstone in the Sully-sur-Loire cemetery.
