Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) - Lot 120
Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) Medallion of Professor Pierre-Paul Grassé, 1978 Lacquered shellac studio plaster Signed and dated (below the neck): Damboise 1978 Inscription (on the rim, in relief). PIERRE-PAUL GRASSE 1895-19 D. 26 cm Inv. MD-S-134-00d Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent Marcel Damboise probably met Professor Pierre-Paul Grassé (1895-1985) through his sculptor friends from the Académie, at an event at the Institut. Grassé, an eminent zoologist, has been an Academician since 1948. Marcel Damboise created a medallion and bust portrait of him: a bronze proof of the bust is probably in the scientist's family. For the medallion presented here, the sculptor undoubtedly took the medallion made in the late 1970s at the time of his friend's death in 1985, and added his birth and death dates.
