Figurine by Charles Sandre, captain: soldier of the artiller - Lot 273
Figurine by Charles Sandre, captain: soldier of the artillery train of the guard and parks, in wood and plaster, painted head, smoking a pipe; clothing as in the original; wooden base marked: "1807-14 GARDE IMPÉRIALE TRAIN DES PARCS"; total height 49 cm. (Signature almost invisible; wear). Circa 1900. Good condition. Charles SANDRE made his figurines around 1900. They were made using materials as close to the real thing as possible: fabric for uniforms; leather and buffalo for equipment, boots and saber scabbards; iron and brass for weapons, helmets, breastplates and brassware; wood for rifle butts and tool handles; horsehair for caterpillars and manes; feathers for plumes. They are all, in principle, signed on the terrace. A fine collection of these figurines is on display in the reception room, before the Musée de l'Armée bookshop in the Hôtel des Invalides. We know of a photo of him in front of his figurines and his collection of antique weapons, circa 1900.
