Imperial Guard horse grenadier's saber, brass clamshell hilt - Lot 240
Imperial Guard horse grenadier's saber, brass clamshell hilt decorated with a grenade in a circle, hallmark on the quillon, stamped under the plate: "G I - 6. E. N. 20", leather-covered fusée, watermarked; straight cuirassier officer's blade model 1816, round-backed and double-throated, signed on the back: "Manufre Rle de Châtellerault mai 1844", length 96.5 cm; iron scabbard of the same model; overall length 115.5 cm. (Crack on the guard plate, repaired; end of the scabbard slightly pitted on one side). First Empire Guard period, blade and scabbard type 1816, later reassembled. Good condition. This assembly was made from 1824 for the Grenadiers de France, but, given the date of manufacture of the blade, this assembly was made later.
