Liliane Avignon (1936-2023) - Lot 246
Liliane Avignon (1936-2023) Brown Monkey Painted plaster with rusted-steel patina, mounted on a painted wooden base 70 x 65 x 37 cm Liliane Avignon, born in Paris in 1936, began her artistic career at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, where she studied visual arts from 1950 to 1953. Later, she studied drawing with Robert Lesbounit (1904-1984). Her passion for drawing led her to Polynesia in 1959, where she devoted herself entirely to this activity. There, she created fabric designs for Daniel Adam, a Tahitian fabric designer and printer. After a foray into communications and advertising in the 1950s and 1960s, Liliane Avignon turned to painting, before devoting herself definitively to sculpture from 1965 until her death in 2023. A committed artist, Liliane Avignon chaired and animated the Groupe d'Art Plastique de Villepreux (GAP) for almost two decades, from 2000 to 2018. She passes on her passion by teaching drawing, composition and color, and organizing exhibitions that bring together artists from the Ile-de-France region. Through her work, Liliane Avignon seeks to transcend appearances to capture the very essence of living things, as her "objective is not the representation of the subject but its evocation".
