Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) Reclining panther Circa 1930 Bronze with brown patina Signed "Roger Godchaux" on the terrace Bears the circular insert and the founder's mark "Susse Frs Edts Paris" Bears the words "cire perdue" ("lost wax"). H. 20 cm, terrace L. 56.2. D. 19.9 cm Roger Godchaux studied with Jules Adler and Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes awarded him the silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life depicting animals in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
