Armand Petersen (1891-1969) - Lot 219
Armand Petersen (1891-1969) Licking panther Black patina bronze Signed "PETERSEN Bears the circular insert and the founder's mark "Susse Frs Edts Paris". Bears the words "cire perdue" and "BRONZE". Bears the number "6". H. 17.2 cm After a brief stay in Paris in 1914, Armand Petersen joined sculptor Bêla Markup's studio in Budapest. Here, in addition to learning to model, he received perhaps the most important lesson for his future creations: the discovery of animal art and the observation of live models in the Hungarian capital's zoological park. He never ceased to perfect his work, always striving for elegance and purity of line. Ornamentation is eschewed in order to render ever more forcefully anatomical truth, as well as the beauty of movement and attitude.
