Michel Robert, known as David Mesly (1918-2004) Rooster Wood sculpture Signed "M.ROBERT" on back of base H. 58 cm Michel Robert studied sculpture with his father. He exhibited his animal subjects, both domestic and wild, at various salons, including the Salon national des beaux-arts, the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des artistes décorateurs. His talent for direct carving enabled him to work for Monuments Historiques as a copyist, as well as for contemporary sculptors such as Alfred Janniot, Antoniucci Volti, René Quillivic and Gabriel Coquelin. At the end of the 1990s, he decided to use the pseudonym David Mesly.
