19th-century French school after a model by Pierre Lepautre - Lot 96
19th-century French school after a model by Pierre Lepautre (1660-1744) Aeneas carrying his father Anchises, followed by Ascagne Brown patina bronze Total height: 47 cm including red marble base Height: 7 cm This model of Aeneas carrying his father, followed by Ascanius is the result of a collaboration between François Girardon and Pierre Lepautre, when they were both boarders at the Académie de France in Rome (documented in a 1696 letter from Villacerf to the director of the institution). That same year, Girardon entrusted the wax model to Lepautre, who made a number of modifications. The marble, now in the Louvre, was completed in 1701, when Lepautre returned to France.
